The Stroke Center offers effective protocols for rapid treatment and management of stroke and cerebrovascular disease. Our center provides a comprehensive, team-oriented approach to patient care that includes physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, a social worker, counseling for depression/anxiety, a dietitian and an exercise consultant. Our multidisciplinary approach to patient care integrates all services, allowing us to provide each individual with a care plan tailored to their specific needs. The Stroke Center also offers 24-7 emergency capabilities including interventional therapies and tissue plasminogen activator.
Steve W. Dibert, MD, Jerry Martin, MD, Kenneth Shauger, MD, and J. Scott Story, MD, evaluate and treat all stroke patients in a learning environment that promotes clinical and basic science research.
Services available at the Stroke Center include:
- Acute and chronic stroke management
- 24-hour emergent stroke treatment
- tPA - tissue plasminogen activator
- Interventional therapies including angioplasty, stent placement, merci retrieval device and penumbra instrumentation
- Care for patients who have had a stroke due to thrombosis or embolism
CMC is part of the Carolinas Stroke Network, a comprehensive network that provides rapid, state-of-the-art treatment to patients suffering an acute stroke. Similar to the treatment for heart attack, the more quickly emergency care can be provided to some stroke patients, the better the outcome.
